Bee Keeping
At FARMStay Zirobwe, beekeeping is a cornerstone of our sustainable farming philosophy. Our beekeeping practices are rooted in a deep commitment to the environment, ensuring that both our farm and the bees thrive in harmony. Bees play a vital role in pollination and honey production, which is central to our operation. To support our bees, we use eco-friendly plastic beehives with internal channels that make honey production more efficient and easy to harvest. These modern hives provide a safe and comfortable environment for the bees, allowing them to work naturally and productively. We harvest honey twice a year—once in June and again in December—giving the bees ample time to replenish their hives and maintain healthy colonies. This sustainable approach ensures that honey production is balanced with the bees' well-being, fostering a thriving ecosystem. Our bees can fly up to six kilometers to gather nectar, and to keep them hydrated, we provide a safe water source with stones placed in it, allowing the bees to drink without the risk of drowning. This simple solution is just one of the ways we support their health. The natural surroundings of our farm are crucial to our beekeeping success. The diverse plants, reeds, and trees around the farm provide essential nectar sources for our bees, contributing to the quality of the honey we produce. These plants also serve other important purposes, including natural fencing and cultural significance, further enriching the farm’s ecosystem. At FARMStay Zirobwe, our beekeeping practices reflect a holistic approach to farming, where sustainability, bee welfare, and environmental balance are at the heart of everything we do. Through thoughtful, eco-friendly practices, we produce high-quality honey while supporting the health of both our bees and the surrounding ecosystem.
