Our fish ponds at FARMStay Zirobwe are a product of expert craftsmanship, drawing water from a tributary of the River Mayanja. The fresh water flows into carefully designed ponds that are home to native fish species, including Lung Fish (Mamba), African Eel (Maale), and our distinct addition, the Tipalia. These ponds offer a natural, rich habitat where fish thrive, giving visitors a chance to engage in an authentic fishing experience. To create a balanced ecosystem, stone gabions and basket barriers are placed strategically around the ponds. These barriers manage water flow, ensuring the fish stay within their habitats while still having access to designated spawning areas. This unique setup allows fish populations to flourish naturally, enhancing the quality and abundance of the catch. Surrounding the ponds are dense papyrus plants, which provide natural filtration, keeping the water clean and fresh for the fish. This thoughtful integration of natural elements supports the health of the fish and makes the fishing experience both rewarding and environmentally conscious.
